đŠâ𦰠Finding the Woman You Left Behind
Ever feel like youâve worn so many hatsâcarer, support coordinator, partner, parent, professionalâthat youâve forgotten how to simply be a woman?
Youâre not alone.
Especially for women within the NDIS spaceâas carers, participants, or providersâlife often revolves around the needs of everyone else.
And while that dedication is powerful, it can leave us feeling⌠distant from ourselves.
This article is your soft invitation to:
Pause
Breathe
And remember herâthe woman behind it all.
Not someday.
Now.
đŹ âThere is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.â â Michelle Obama
⨠5 Ways to Reconnect With Your Womanhood
These arenât grand gestures.
Theyâre gentle, intentional, and made to fit into real lifeâyour life.
đ¸ Step 1: Recognise That Sheâs Still There
You havenât lost her.
Sheâs just been quietly waiting while you did everything else.
If youâre feeling flat, tired, or unsure of what even lights you up anymoreâ
Ask yourself:
âWhen was the last time I did something purely for me?â
â
Name the feeling.
â
Acknowledge the gap.
â
Take one small step to close it.
đ Celebrate herânot just what she does, but who she is.
𪡠Step 2: Claim Your Space
You plan for others.
You show up for them.
Now itâs time to make a space in your calendar for you.
đŤ It might look like:
Crocheting
Dancing in your kitchen
Sitting outside with your dog and a cuppa
This is not selfish.
đ Itâs essential.
đŹ Step 3: Speak to Yourself with Respect
Youâd never talk to your best friend the way you talk to yourself on hard days.
Letâs change that.
Try saying:
âIâm allowed to put myself first.â
âMy needs are valid.â
âI am still her.â
đŞWrite it on your mirror.
đŁď¸ Speak it out loud.
đ Make it part of your routine.
đ§ââď¸ Step 4: Reconnect With Your Body
Whether you live with a disability, support someone who does, or bothâitâs easy to feel at odds with your body.
This month, give your body some love:
Drink high-quality water
Stretch
Breathe deeply
Move in ways that feel kind
đ âYour body is the home of your womanhoodâtreat it with care.â
đŹ âYour womanhood is not defined by your roleâitâs defined by your soul.â â Sarah Bishop
đ¤ Step 5: Find Your Circle
Surround yourself with people who see youânot just what you do.
This could be:
Inside the NDIS community
In a supportive group like Yeah the Girls
Or in a quiet message to a friend
đ Lean into spaces where womanhood is celebratedânot forgotten.
đ Donât Wait for a Special Occasion to Celebrate You
đŹ âDonât forget to celebrate the woman youâve become, while youâre busy becoming more.â â Sarah Bishop
This May, as we talk about celebrating womanhood, remember:
đ¸ Your story
đ¸ Your strength
đ¸ Your softness
They all deserve to be seen.
So pick one small act this week to honour her.
Because sheâs still there.
And sheâs worth remembering.
