👩🦰 Finding the Woman You Left Behind
Ever feel like you’ve worn so many hats—carer, support coordinator, partner, parent, professional—that you’ve forgotten how to simply be a woman?
You’re not alone.
Especially for women within the NDIS space—as carers, participants, or providers—life often revolves around the needs of everyone else.
And while that dedication is powerful, it can leave us feeling… distant from ourselves.
This article is your soft invitation to:
Pause
Breathe
And remember her—the woman behind it all.
Not someday.
Now.

✨ 5 Ways to Reconnect With Your Womanhood
These aren’t grand gestures.
They’re gentle, intentional, and made to fit into real life—your life.
🌸 Step 1: Recognise That She’s Still There
You haven’t lost her.
She’s just been quietly waiting while you did everything else.
If you’re feeling flat, tired, or unsure of what even lights you up anymore—
Ask yourself:
“When was the last time I did something purely for me?”
✅ Name the feeling.
✅ Acknowledge the gap.
✅ Take one small step to close it.
💖 Celebrate her—not just what she does, but who she is.
🪷 Step 2: Claim Your Space
You plan for others.
You show up for them.
Now it’s time to make a space in your calendar for you.
💫 It might look like:
Crocheting
Dancing in your kitchen
Sitting outside with your dog and a cuppa
This is not selfish.
🔑 It’s essential.
💬 Step 3: Speak to Yourself with Respect
You’d never talk to your best friend the way you talk to yourself on hard days.
Let’s change that.
Try saying:
“I’m allowed to put myself first.”
“My needs are valid.”
“I am still her.”
🪞Write it on your mirror.
🗣️ Speak it out loud.
📓 Make it part of your routine.
🧘♀️ Step 4: Reconnect With Your Body
Whether you live with a disability, support someone who does, or both—it’s easy to feel at odds with your body.
This month, give your body some love:
Drink high-quality water
Stretch
Breathe deeply
Move in ways that feel kind

💬 “Your womanhood is not defined by your role—it’s defined by your soul.” — Sarah Bishop
🤝 Step 5: Find Your Circle
Surround yourself with people who see you—not just what you do.
This could be:
Inside the NDIS community
In a supportive group like Yeah the Girls
Or in a quiet message to a friend
🎀 Lean into spaces where womanhood is celebrated—not forgotten.
🎉 Don’t Wait for a Special Occasion to Celebrate You
💬 “Don’t forget to celebrate the woman you’ve become, while you’re busy becoming more.” — Sarah Bishop
This May, as we talk about celebrating womanhood, remember:
🌸 Your story
🌸 Your strength
🌸 Your softness
They all deserve to be seen.
So pick one small act this week to honour her.
Because she’s still there.
And she’s worth remembering.
