What leap did you take that changed your life forever?

I am a leaper… I always have been a leaper… I leap, then I figure things out on the way down and make the most of wherever I land. I’m like this because there is one thing I believe, and that is that no matter what happens… I will be okay. I can handle it. I am capable.

I’ve taken a lot of leaps that changed my life forever…

One that stands out is leaving my husband on Valentines day in 2011 and walking away from my business, my house and everything I had worked so hard for.

I had a business with 16 staff and 250 clients.

I had a house and several children aged 5, 16, 19 and a foster daughter who was also 19.

I had a commercial office building.

I was overwhelmed, burned out and unappreciated. The relationship was not healthy and was quite abusive and controlling – one day I just cracked and on Valentine’s day I made the decision to change my life. I left everything behind (except the kids) and hit the ‘re-set’ button.

What emotions did you battle before taking the leap?

I describe leaving my life behind as being similar to walking out onto a rickety rope bridge over an abyss Into dark fog without any clue what was on the other side. I had no clue where I would end up but I forged ahead somehow knowing I would be okay. Other times I was filled with gut wrenching fear that I had made (yet another) critical mistake in my life. During this time I lost my business, all my staff lost their jobs and I lost my house and almost all my money. I even lost half my youngest child to shared custody, and then also lost my two dogs when one died and I had to rehome the other one.

There was a lot of grief and loss… mourning all the life goals and hopes and dreams I had realised would never be. That and disappointment, feeling unloved and even like a failure. I hoped my husband would change, but he didn’t and I knew I had to move on.

I made a choice, I refused to fight for anything in the divorce… I did not spend one moment wasted on fighting. I just moved forward with as much peace as I could possibly give myself and let everything else go. I did this in spite of the fact that my ex was very bitter and vindictive and trying to punish me for my decision.

What was the first sign you were on the right path?

The universe somehow aligned the right people in my path to assist me and there was a lot of synergy and ‘co-incidences’. People helped me when I needed help and I felt excited about the future once I began to get a glimpse of what was possible.

I was very fortunate to meet people that guided me into the next phases of study and personal development. While I continued to work in the field of accounting, I worked in the background on developing software for the ‘relaunch’ of my previous phone answering business and studied personal development for my own personal growth. I never once intended to become a therapist and yet that is exactly what I have become.

Everything aligned really perfectly when I look back now… even the hardest parts had a purpose for my greatest good.

How has this decision inspired others around you?

For the people who saw where I started and where I am now I am told I am very inspiring. I think I am proof that you can rebuild, you can start over and you can find happiness and change your life no matter where you are starting from.

It’s never too late to study something different. It’s never too late to launch a business or have a career change. Or have a baby. If someone else has done it, it’s possible for you… It’s never too late to change direction, make new choices, set standards you’ve never set before. You can do anything you put your mind to. What your mind can conceive and believe, you can achieve.

If you could go back, what would you tell yourself before you jumped?

Woman, do not be afraid – there is nothing to be afraid of. You can do this. You are a powerful, capable, courageous person with a lot of life to live and you are called to shine your light into the world. Do it! Everything will be okay. You’ll be okay, your kids will be okay. Your finances will be okay… just BELIEVE in yourself and believe that whatever you want is easily within your reach. I believe in you. Every setback is just a lesson, every hurdle is just a challenge for you to overcome. Lean into the support of people and help everyone you meet on your path. The world is a good place filled with adventures. Take comfort knowing you are on your path and trust in the universe to guide you. Everything will be okay. There is love, success, happiness, friendship, family and fun ahead… do not look down. The sky is the limit. Be generous, be kind.
